In his First Test batting effort , Ashton Agar has broken so many records , that his name will be long remembered , even if he does nothing more in this Test ! Nearly " stumped " , in his first minutes at the crease , he and Hughes , turned a dismal Aussie effort , into a BRILLIANT Display of " Tailend Batting "!
Phillip Hughes also had some good fortune , as he batted his way to 81 not out with 9 fours , thus being the second best batsman in this first innings . As a partnership , Ashton and Phillip , took Oz from the dismal period of 108 for 4 to 118 for 9 , then onto the respectable 280 all out . During this period , England's elation , at a CHEAP dismissal of the Aussies evaporated . Midday hopes of nearly a 95 run lead became a mid afternoon dismay , of seeking to recover lost ground of 65 runs .
